How this calculator works
The estimate has three parts. The one-time build cost is the platform base price plus product upload beyond the first 50 products and any extra features you select. The yearly running cost covers your domain, hosting, maintenance and — for Shopify — the monthly plan and paid apps. Payment gateway fees are calculated from your expected monthly sales and the fee percentage you enter.
The 3-year total adds the build cost to three years of running costs and gateway fees. It’s the most useful number for comparing platforms, because a cheaper build with higher monthly fees can end up costing more over time.
Why the platform choice changes your 3-year cost
Shopify has the lowest effort to launch and includes hosting, but you pay a monthly plan and often several paid apps for good as long as the store runs. WooCommerce has no platform subscription but needs hosting, premium plugins and regular maintenance. A custom-coded store costs more than a basic Shopify setup upfront but has no platform or app fees, so for stores with steady sales it is often the cheapest over three years.
Try switching the platform in the calculator with the same products and features to see the difference for your own numbers. For a full written breakdown, read our ecommerce website cost guide for India.
