What is a UPI QR code?
A UPI QR code stores a payment link in the standard upi://pay format with your UPI ID, name and, optionally, an amount and note. When a customer scans it with any UPI app, the payment screen opens with your details filled in. Because UPI is interoperable, one QR works across every bank and app.

Is it safe to share a UPI QR code?
Yes. A UPI QR code only lets people send money to you — it cannot take money from your account. Your UPI PIN is never part of the QR. Two habits keep you safe: never scan a QR someone sends you “to receive money” (receiving never needs a PIN), and check your printed QR regularly so nobody pastes a different code over it at your counter.
Tips for shops and businesses
- Print the poster at least A5 size and keep it at eye level near the counter.
- Laminate it, and check weekly that it hasn’t been replaced or covered.
- Use your shop name as the payee name so customers recognise it on the payment screen.
- For events or fixed-price items, create a QR with the amount already filled in.
- Turn on SMS or app alerts so staff can confirm payments quickly.
