Ecommerce website cost in India at a glance
The price of an online store depends on three things: the platform (Shopify, WooCommerce or custom-coded), who builds it (DIY, freelancer or agency) and how many custom features you need. Here’s what to expect in 2026:
| Type of store | Typical build cost | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| DIY on Shopify / Wix | ₹0–₹10,000 + your time | Testing an idea with a few products |
| Basic store by a freelancer | ₹15,000–₹40,000 | Small catalogues, simple needs |
| Professional store by an agency | ₹25,000–₹60,000 | Most small and growing brands |
| Custom features / mid-size store | ₹60,000–₹2,00,000 | B2B pricing, integrations, large catalogues |
| Marketplace or enterprise platform | ₹2,00,000–₹25,00,000+ | Multi-vendor, apps, ERP integration |
These are typical market ranges in India; individual quotes vary with design complexity, number of products and integrations. Our own published prices are listed here.
One-time build costs: what you’re paying for
- Design: home, category, product, cart and checkout pages designed for your brand — templates cost less, custom design more.
- Development: building the storefront, checkout and admin; custom features such as B2B pricing, subscriptions or delivery slots add cost.
- Payment and shipping setup: integrating a payment gateway (UPI, cards, COD) and shipping or courier services.
- Product upload: entering products, variants, images and descriptions — significant for large catalogues.
- SEO and analytics setup: meta tags, product schema, sitemap, Google Analytics and Search Console.
- Testing and training: test orders on real devices and teaching your team to run the store.
Tip: when comparing quotes, check what’s included. A cheaper quote that excludes payment setup, product upload or support often ends up costing more.
Yearly running costs most people forget
The build is a one-time cost, but every online store has recurring costs. Budget for these from day one:
| Cost | Shopify | WooCommerce | Custom store |
|---|---|---|---|
| Domain name | Usually ₹800–₹1,500 per year for a .com or .in | ||
| Hosting | Included in plan | ₹3,000–₹15,000+ / year | ₹3,000–₹15,000+ / year |
| Platform plan | Monthly Shopify plan | None | None |
| Apps / plugins | Often several paid apps | Some premium plugins | Built in — no app fees |
| Payment gateway | A per-transaction fee charged by Razorpay, PhonePe, Cashfree, PayU etc. — varies by payment method | ||
| Maintenance | Low | Updates & security needed | Low–moderate |
Platform plans, app prices and gateway fees change — always check the provider’s current pricing for India before you decide. The key point is structural: hosted platforms charge every month, while a custom store is mostly a one-time cost plus hosting.

Shopify vs WooCommerce vs custom: which costs less over 3 years?
For a brand testing the market with a handful of products, Shopify is usually the cheapest way to start: low build cost, no server management, and you can be selling within two weeks. Its monthly plan and app fees add up as you grow.
WooCommerce avoids a platform subscription and suits content-rich brands, but needs hosting, plugin licences and regular maintenance to stay fast and secure.
A custom-coded store costs more upfront than a basic Shopify setup but has no platform or app fees, so for stores with steady order volume it often becomes the cheapest option over two to three years — and you own it outright. Our custom ecommerce store is ₹45,499 and can go live in 7 days.
How to get an accurate quote for your store
Before you contact any developer, prepare answers to these questions — you’ll get faster, more accurate and more comparable quotes:
- How many products and variants will you launch with?
- Do you need B2B or wholesale pricing, subscriptions, pre-orders or delivery slots?
- Which payment methods do you need — UPI, cards, COD?
- Where will you ship, and which courier or aggregator will you use?
- Do you need integrations with accounting, inventory or ERP software?
- Who will manage the store day to day?
Send these to us on WhatsApp and we’ll reply with a fixed quote. Or read more about our ecommerce website development and Shopify development services.
