Website cost in India by type of website
The single biggest factor in website cost is what the website has to do. A five-page brochure site and an online store with 500 products are different projects, even if both are “a website”. These are the typical ranges we see across India in 2026 — from freelancers, small agencies and established companies:
| Website type | Typical price in India | Timeline | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| DIY website builder (Wix, Hostinger, GoDaddy) | ₹3,000 – ₹15,000 / year | 1–7 days (your time) | Testing an idea, personal pages |
| Basic business website (5–10 pages) | ₹7,000 – ₹25,000 | 1–2 weeks | Shops, clinics, consultants, local services |
| Professional website (10–25 pages, SEO, blog) | ₹25,000 – ₹80,000 | 2–5 weeks | Growing brands that need leads from Google |
| Shopify / WooCommerce store | ₹25,000 – ₹1,50,000 | 2–6 weeks | D2C brands, retailers, 10–1,000 products |
| Custom-coded online store | ₹45,000 – ₹3,00,000+ | 1–8 weeks | Brands that want no monthly platform fees and full control |
| Web app / portal (booking, CRM, dashboards) | ₹35,000 – ₹5,00,000+ | 3–16 weeks | Businesses automating a process |
Prices at the low end usually mean a pre-made template with your logo and text dropped in. Prices at the high end mean custom design, more pages, copywriting, integrations and SEO work. Neither is wrong — the question is what your business needs the website to achieve.
What decides the price of a website?
When you ask five developers for a quote and get five very different numbers, it is almost always because they are pricing different things. These are the factors that actually move the price:
- Number of pages and sections. Each unique page layout needs design and build time. Ten pages that share one layout cost less than five pages that are all different.
- Template vs custom design. A bought template is cheaper to start but harder to change later. A custom design costs more once, but fits your brand and loads faster.
- Features. Contact forms and WhatsApp buttons are cheap. Online payments, booking calendars, user logins, multi-language content, calculators and integrations with CRM or billing software add real development time.
- Content. If you supply text and photos, the project is faster. If the developer writes copy, sources images or shoots products, budget extra.
- SEO and speed work. A site built to rank on Google needs proper page titles, structured data, fast hosting and a sensible page structure from day one — fixing this later costs more than doing it right first.
- Who builds it. Freelancers are often cheaper; agencies cost more but offer a team, a contract, support and continuity if someone leaves.
- Support after launch. Ask what happens when something breaks in month four. A cheap quote with no support can become the most expensive option.
Yearly running costs (after the website is built)
Building the website is a one-time cost. Keeping it online is a small yearly cost that many quotes leave out:
| Item | Typical yearly cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Domain name (.in) | ₹500 – ₹1,000 | Renewal price is often higher than the first-year offer |
| Domain name (.com) | ₹800 – ₹1,600 | Always register the domain in your own name |
| Hosting (shared) | ₹2,000 – ₹8,000 | Fine for most business sites |
| Hosting (VPS / cloud) | ₹6,000 – ₹40,000 | Needed for busy stores and web apps |
| SSL certificate (HTTPS) | Free – ₹5,000 | Free Let’s Encrypt SSL is enough for almost every business |
| Business email | ₹600 – ₹2,500 per user | Zoho Mail, Google Workspace or your host’s email |
| Maintenance / AMC | ₹5,000 – ₹30,000 | Updates, backups, small changes, security |
For a typical small business, the realistic total is ₹3,000 – ₹15,000 a year. Ecommerce stores on Shopify also pay a monthly plan and app subscriptions — see our Shopify cost guide.

How to save money on your website (without regretting it)
- Write down what the site must do before asking for quotes: pages, features, payments, languages. Clear scope gets you lower, comparable quotes.
- Prepare your content. Logo, text for each page and good photos can cut a week off the timeline.
- Start smaller. Launch with the pages that bring enquiries and add a blog, more services or a store later.
- Own your domain and hosting accounts. If the developer registers them in their name, moving later becomes expensive.
- Avoid “free website” offers that lock you into ₹1,000+ monthly fees forever — over three years they often cost more than a custom site.
- Ask about yearly costs upfront so there are no surprises at renewal time.
Red flags in a website quote
Be careful if the quote…
- has no list of pages or features
- doesn’t say who owns the domain, code and hosting
- has no support period after launch
- charges a monthly fee you can never stop
- promises “guaranteed #1 on Google”
A good quote shows…
- pages, features and integrations in writing
- timeline with milestones
- number of revision rounds
- yearly running costs separately
- support and handover terms
